My political views can be described as economically conservative and socially
liberal.  In the 1800's this was called "liberal", but that word has come to
be subverted to mean "statist", which is quite the opposite of my own beliefs.

I am a registered Libertarian because I value individual rights above the 
supposed gains to be had by giving the government power to sacrifice 
individuals for some nebulous and promised future gain.   I find myself
agreeing with most of what Ayn Rand wrote in her many books on capitalism
and individual rights.
